Family Time

When we think of who we spend the most time with in our life, we automatically go to family. We think of our kids, parents, grandparents and even some close friends.

As we enter our adult lives we enter a whole new spectrum of who we spend the better parts of our days with. We tend to forget that work and home life are interconnected and that from 9-5, Monday – Friday, often longer, most people spend that time with their “work family”.

As a member of the BoominGroup Family, I am constantly reminded of this. We have become a tight knit family and rely on each other to accomplish many tasks within our work and home life. We spend so much time together!

Each week we challenge ourselves to learn something new, about the universe or ourselves. We call it Mind Expansions. Each member of the team brings a topic that is interesting to them or that they are curious about. We present the topic and then open it up for group dialogue. This week, I challenged the group to be creative and come up with a question to ask each other, in an endeavor to open up to the team on a more personal level…kind of like “20 questions.” The idea was to see each other from a new and fresh perspective, to connect.

Some of the answers were surprising, and some of them we all could have answered for that person. Some were more practical and some urged us to think deeply or have the courage to be vulnerable. A simple game about asking questions opened us up to an experience of learning and laughter.

Here are a few of the questions that we came up with:

  1. You have to take a person that you do not get a long with somewhere, where would you go?
  2. If you could go back in time to any era, which era in time would it be?
  3. If you could have your dream car, what would it be?
  4. What is one thing you think would make you a happier person?
  5. What is one of your deepest fears?

Great team work is dependent on really getting to know each other, asking questions, being open and honest, and having heart to care for each other. Taking a few minutes out of your day to ask questions and learn more about the people who surround you will open up new possibilities and help build a stronger functioning team and work environment. Too often in the work environment we forget our humanity. In this mind expansion, we learned that a simple curiosity can lead to deeper connection. A simple question, acknowledges the humanity in each other.
